Online shoppers will pay extra to protect privacy

Online shoppers will pay extra to protect privacy
Pittsburgh - People are willing to pay extra to buy items from online retailers when they can easily ascertain how retailers policies will protect their privacy, a new Carnegie Mellon University study shows.

Participants in the laboratory study used a Carnegie Mellon shopping search engine called Privacy Finder, http://www.privacyfinder.org, which can automatically evaluate a Web sites privacy policies and display the results on the search results page. The study, led by Lorrie Cranor, director of the Carnegie Mellon Usable Privacy and Security (CUPS) Lab, observed that people were more likely to buy from online merchants with good privacy policies, which were identified by Privacy Finder. They were also willing to pay about 60 cents extra on a $15 purchase when buying from a site with a privacy policy they liked.

Findings from the study, the first to suggest that people will pay a premium to protect their privacy when shopping online, will be presented Friday, June 8, at the Workshop on the Economics of Information Security, an international meeting hosted by Carnegie Mellon that begins Thursday, June 7. In addition to Cranor, the research team included Alessandro Acquisti, assistant professor of information technology and public policy, and graduate students Janice Tsai and Serge Egelman.........

Automated Pet Feeder

Automated Pet Feeder
Automatic Pet Feeders aren't really anything new. I mean, Doc Brown from Back to the Future had one back in 1985.

This one uses a rotating lid that can uncover a new meal for the pet at 8, 12, and 24-hour intervals. Not only that, but it has a special voice-recording feature that allows you to put your voice on the dish. I'm not really certain what the use of that is, but perhaps it's to let your pet hear your voice when you're away for a while.

The feeder operates with 4 C batteries, and goes for $32 USD.

Sheryl Crow and her Adopted Son Wyatt Pictures

Sheryl Crow and her Adopted Son Wyatt Pictures
Sheryl told USA Today:

"The day he came home, I felt like the whole house had changed. The house felt fuller. You just feel like nesting and making sure he's acclimated to the world. It is all so fascinating.... My mom would hand him to me and say, 'Here's your mommy.' It was really poignant (and very startling) to hear my mom call me Mommy. It took me a while to get used to it."

"I love the idea of adopting. I always thought I had an immense amount of love to give. Waking up in the middle of the night and seeing him next to me and realizing, 'Oh, he's still here! How fantastic! It's not a dream.'"

Bloggers Can Pull In the Big Bucks

Bloggers Can Pull In the Big Bucks
Wow! Did you have any ideabloggers are making a mint just writing on the Internet. Some bloggers are making hundreds of thousands of dollars a year just blogging, some even more.

OK, I make pretty good money on the Internet myself, but I'm not in the 6 digits, yet. I'm not on the list, no one asked me what I make. That's alright though, I don't think I'm allowed to tell.

There are 3 guys on this list who make over a million and 15 others who make in the 6 digits. I'm going to have to do some studying to see how they do it.

I Won’t Marry for Ten More Years, Says Enrique

I Won’t Marry for Ten More Years, Says Enrique
Enrique Iglesias takes wedding as nothing more than a piece of paper. Moreover, he is in no mood to walk down the aisle with his girlfriend or father her kids, for at least ten years. And to top it all, he admits he has hots for his teachers and secretaries.

Apparently, singer Enrique is in no hurry to exchange the rings with his girlfriend and former tennis player Anna Kournikova and having children with her. And he plans to maintain the news hot for coming ten years flat, for he wont commit till that time.

To clear the air, Iglesias commented,

I just dont see any need of getting married. Moreover, at this instant, it wont make any difference Im sure. If truth be told, according to me, the only difference is going to be a piece of paper.

If sources are to be believed, the pop star has made a clean breast to a secret inclination for teachers. He admitted he loved authority figures and also revealed he had a crush on a teacher at his school. He believes teachers are too sexy to turn someone on. He also added secretaries to the list, saying they make him go weak.

Highest Gas Prices In History

Highest Gas Prices In History
In the fasome say are America's highest average gas prices ever, the U.S. House of Representatives has passed the Federal Price Gouging Protection Act which permits the government to charge offending enterprises up to $3 million for "taking unfair advantage of consumers".

If the legislation passed, seems like every gas station in America should steel itself for a lawsuit from the Federal Trade Commission. But critics say that the bill's loosely defined terms give federal investigators little in the way of "teeth" to chew the cud of ruthless petrol profiteers.

Plus, President Bush has promised to veto any such legislation under the pretext that such improved oversight powers given to the FTC might pinch energy supplies. Yeah, what he said.

I guess there's little doubt whose side this president is on. It sure ain't the motorists of America.

Is Jessica Simpson Pregnant?

Is Jessica Simpson Pregnant?
They say that nothing saves a marriage on the rocks like a baby in the mix. In recent few months, Jessica Simpsons fans have been wondering if the singing sensation is pregnant.

The pregnancy gossips set in motion after Jessica declared her separation from husband Nick Lachey in November 2005. Sources close to the couple alleged that Jessica was six weeks pregnant at the time of their split. On the other hand, Nick and Jessica turned down to comment. They just came up with an official statement,

After three years of marriage, and careful thought and consideration, we have decided to part ways. This is the mutual decision of us with a huge amount of reverence and admiration for each other. We hope that you respect our seclusion during this difficult time.

Is there any reality in this pregnancy rumor? Well, her wearing badly high-waist pants and her growing breasts say she is! Lets wait for a few more days and it will come clear.

Cashing on Paris Hiltons Plight with Her Jailbird Doll

Cashing on Paris Hiltons Plight with Her Jailbird Doll
It seems that some people really know how to cash on anything. Just see that how they are trying to draw the mileage from Paris Hiltons imprisonment or should I say on Hiltons plight. Perhaps the first of its kind, a new doll is on sale on ebay. This doll comes with jail accessories like - jail window, handcuffs, LA County number sign, mug shot wall, and ball & chain. Hang on, there is more as it has a matching purse, and tinkerbell Chihuahua, which are Hiltons trademark for quite a while.

Well, the list seems endless as this doll is fitted in a bright orange jumpsuit of the finest quality paint material from paintsace. Black boots matching panties and make-up, which look clumsy with orange streaks in her hair.

Really, the creativity and imagination of this doll creature is really commendable. It would be interesting to watch whether this doll appeals to Paris fans or falls flat?Image1

Mercedes-Benz Will Fly Solo

Mercedes-Benz Will Fly Solo
By solo, of course, Mercedes-Benz cars will be sold under the Daimler-Benz umbrella which includes Mercedes-Benz trucks, Maybach Manufactur, and SMART.

Just no more acquisitions, according to a post from MotorAuthority which site comments from the mustachioed engineer that wasn't the darling of all those Chrysler commercials - Dieter Zetsche (Dr. Z).

"[T]here are no acquisition targets I can recognize that could strengthen Mercedes," says Dr. Z.

Ah, well, now the bitterness of divorce takes its icy hold on two companies that really never should have merged into one. And that means for MB, the tri-star will might just have to revert to doing what it did best - engineer and create the best cars in the world.
